Ralphie May is gone but not forgotten. Going to see him at a show was on my bucket list and Greg made that happen back in 2012. He was doing a charity show in Baltimore for firefighters and police.
Greg and I finally had a date night after we went through a lot of things with my daughter and it was really nice. We drove out to Baltimore for the show and the weather was kinda nasty but we didn’t care.
The first time I ever saw Ralphie May was on The Last Comic Standing and I was a fan ever since. I’ve never watched anyone that could make me laugh that hard and he was good every time he went up there. I remember his wife Lahna Turner was at the show to show him support on the final episode. They also did a podcast together called Perfect 10. Lahna keeps that going to this day.
Anyways, back to what I was saying, We went to the Sheraton Hotel in Baltimore for the show.
We had VIP passes to get in to see him so that meant that we were able to meet him and get a picture with Ralphie. Before we headed into the hotel for the show we took a picture.
This show was also right before I got serious about my workouts. Greg and I both lost a significant amount of weight. Anyways, we had the VIP passes and we had a front row seat to the show.
It was great and I could not be happier. It was the first comedy show I ever went to and to see my favorite comedian Ralphie May was a major bonus!
There were some great opening acts and a local Mickey Cucchiella. I heard him as a DJ on the radio but never his comedy and he was actually really good.
So, I had a glass of wine and Greg had a beer while we waited for Ralphie to come out.
He was funny as always and did not disappoint. It was a great show and a wonderful night out with Greg. I didn’t expect anything less.
After the show, we got to meet him. I love this picture too because it was right before Greg and I changed our lifestyle and started to get healthy. It’s kinda like out before weight loss photos.
The next time we saw Ralphie was in February of 2014. It was a day of mixed emotions because Greg found out his brother had passed away but he still wanted to go to the show.
Greg was a good sport and he wanted to go to try to take his mind off everything. We had to go see Sweet Dick Ralphie May!
It was a cold night and it even started snowing. This was Valentines Day weekend so there were many couples out that night. Greg was wearing shorts because that’s what he does. Lol
I was waiting inside and noticed a payphone! Whoever remembers these things?!?
I’m not sure if there is one that can be found these days. Cell phones have completely changed that.
Once they finally opened the door for people to take their seats I was grateful!
I remember Ralphie making a comment about Greg wearing shorts in the cold weather but he was from California and Texas so he doesn’t really know about the cold we get here in Maryland.
He was also making note that Greg was not laughing at much. I kinda felt bad and wanted to let him know what was up but I never did. We did get another picture with Ralphie. I think we all lost weight since the last one.
I kinda stopped following him once he started getting real political and not just funny political. I’m still sad about his death. He just seemed to change a bit when he was going through marital issues also. I don’t regret going to see him and he was funny! I still love him and may he rest in peace. Lot’s of good memories that will last a lifetime.
I will leave you with the vlog we did from the last time we saw him. Let me know if you have any memories of Ralphie. We would love to hear about them.
